I know of no other woodworking plan source which provides such a complete experience as Sawtooth Ideas does.
I had played around with the software, an app for my iPad, but I had never built anything with it. So I offered to build a simple project and write a blog post for Sawtooth Ideas – they gladly accepted my offer and the blog post went live today. See it here: Building the Garden Planter with IdeaRoom.
I selected a garden planter because I wanted a simple project that I could build quickly. I made it using cypress; my first project with this wood and I was pleased with the results…
But, back to IdeaRoom. As I used this new tool, I realized how the guys at Sawtooth Ideas are really onto something. Tablet devices are seen as the future of computing and they have the only woodworking plan app for mobile devices (there is also a PC version) which allows you to look at your project in 3D, spin it around, explode the model allowing you to look deep inside it. You can select specific components and do the same – even get the dimensions of each part right off the model.
Plus, a traditional woodworking plan comes with the download as well. What could be better? Check out Sawtooth Ideas if you have not already done so. They have several plans which are free. This means you can download the plan and the IdeaRoom software for free. Sounds like a cool idea to me.
