My Hand Plane Collection Takes A Big Step Forward

A couple of weeks ago, I shared this photo on Facebook and let it be known that this rockin’ Mustang was at the top of my Christmas wish list. Of course I was joking and thankfully, Santa knew just what I really needed: a brand new Veritas Bevel-Up Jointer Plane. I had been thinking about this plane as my next acquisition after considering the following options: Scott Meek Woodworks – A Scott Meek hand plane is on my bucket list. Scott’s beautiful planes are high quality and worth the premium price, but I just can’t make the money work right now. The Wood River Jointer Plane – From what I have read, Woodcraft’s planes are improving, but I am not willing to buy one just yet. The Lie-Nielsen Jointer Plane – I own two LN planes and have been very pleased with them, but the #7 jointer is $425 and while I consider myself an experienced salesman, that price is a pretty tough sell now. My Workshop Christmas Tree

It is at this time of year that we see Christmas trees in many places; in our homes, places of work, shopping centers, and parks are just a few that come to mind. While visiting Mickey Davis, a local artist, a thought popped into my head: I should have a Christmas Tree in a place where I work – my basement workshop. Mickey creates eclectic art by using anything which sparks his interest. This could be discarded lumber found at a demolition site, an item from an architectural antique dealer, or he may simply see a unique item by the side of the road. His studio is home to a wide variety of things which form the basis for the art he creates. Christmas trees are popular right now and Mickey has supplied a number of them to clients, some of whom have come back for a second tree. I think mine looks great and is perfect for a woodshop.
