I Vacation in Asheville and Discover a Woodworking Mother Lode

The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina is known to be a treasure trove of authentic Craftsman style furniture. The hotel lobby and hallways contain authentic Arts and Crafts furniture, some of which have been reproduced frequently enough to be easily found on the internet. My wife and I visited the Grove Park Inn while on vacation in Asheville and I tried to impress her with my knowledge of defining Arts and Crafts furniture details. For example, take the table and chairs seen below… The table is made of quarter-sawn white oak. The top features a frame which surrounds a tile center and the frame joinery shows exposed pegged tenons. The lower shelf utilizes keys to lock the exposed tenons in place. The aprons between the legs have a nice arch. Then on the chairs there is super cool inlay… But seeing such a large collection of Craftsman furniture all in one place is not the mother lode I refer to in my post title.
